Miami International University of Art & Design is one of The Art Institutes, with more than 40 education institutions located throughout North America, providing an important source of design, media arts, fashion and culinary professionals. Miami International University of Art & Design was established in 1965.
Our Mission
Miami International University of Art & Design is a learning-centered, career-oriented institution serving the educational needs of its students and industry through undergraduate and graduate programs with growth potential. Our mission is to prepare our undergraduate students for entrylevel positions in their chosen fields, as well as to provide our graduate students with a scholarly vehicle to further explore their chosen disciplines. The University achieves its mission through the offering of quality higher education. The institution is dedicated to fostering a culture of learning by providing an academic environment that encourages creative and analytical expression.
The City of Miami
The Greater Miami area, which includes Miami and Miami Beach, as well as distinctive neighborhoods like the Design District, Little Havana, Little Haiti and Wynwood, is a fusion of culture, tradition, and international flavor indigenous to the region. Since half of Miami's population is Hispanic, not only are current events in the United States followed closely, but the community also stays well in touch with daily events in our neighboring Latin American countries. Our unique connection and close proximity to our Latin American neighbors brings many rich traditions, festivals, and international cuisine to the local community, making Miami, not only a great place to live, but a popular tourist attraction as well.
Miami International University of Art & Design students also visit local attractions such as South Beach, the Miami Design District, the Wynwood Art District, American Airlines Arena, Coconut Grove, Key West, and the Miami Seaquarium - just to name a few! A 30-minute drive north to Fort Lauderdale or three-hour trip to Orlando is also well within reach, or you can hop an airplane or cruise ship to the nearby Bahamas or Caribbean Islands.
The balmy Miami climate allows you to enjoy outdoor sports year-round. Our students are often found at nearby parks and beaches bike riding, fishing, jogging, sunbathing, rollerblading, swimming, or playing tennis and volleyball. Health clubs, gyms, and dance studios in the area offer opportunities for aerobics, weight-lifting, ballet, kickboxing, and martial arts.
The Florida Keys are a short drive south to US1 and world-famous for a variety of water sports: snorkeling, scuba diving, kayaking, fishing, camping and boating. You can even take an airboat ride through the Everglades.
Wherever you go, you're bound to find communities, events, art and design indigenous to the region. A tremendous fusion of international flavor is what makes Miami such a diverse place to live and work. Citizens of all different nationalities are represented throughout our community. To celebrate our rich diversity, the City of Miami hosts year-round festivals and events. Nearly every weekend is dedicated to an art, food or music festival. In addition to these festivals, due to the large Hispanic population, Miami is host to many international events celebrating the many Latin American cultures and people living in the region.
The arts and international fashion also thrive in Miami. Each year the city hosts Art Basel-Miami, the winter equivalent of the world's largest art show held in Basel, Switzerland. Artists, art dealers, galleries and museums come from all over the world to exhibit during Art Basel throughout Miami. The local art and design scene is teeming with local talent. The University is located in the new Performing Arts District of downtown Miami that is home to two large international concert and performance halls. In addition, the Design District and Wynwood Art District (the Soho of the South) are home to over 50 local galleries are both nearby. The Miami Art Museum is home to a wide array of sculptures and paintings.
The city of Miami is also a national sports market, with representation in several major professional organizations. The Miami Heat, the Miami Dolphins, and Florida Marlins baseball team are all Miami's home teams. The Florida Panthers hockey team plays its home games about 30 minutes north of Miami.
With its tropical climate, miles of sandy beaches, international culture and cuisine, nightlife, and more - you will feel like you have a little bit of paradise right in your own back yard.

The Miami International University of Art & Design and The Art Institute of Tampa are licensed by means of accreditation by the Commission for Independent Education, Florida Department of Education. The Art Institute of Jacksonville is provisionally licensed by the Commission for Independent Education. In December, 2007, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) issued Miami International University of Art & Design a warning related to its new branch campus in Jacksonville, FL. Pursuant to the warning, the University is required to submit a report to SACS at the end of 2008. Miami International University of Art & Design is committed to addressing any concerns with respect to its Jacksonville campus in an appropriate manner and will work closely with SACS to address all issues which led to this action.
The University, including its branch locations, remains accredited by SACS. The ability of students at all of these locations to receive federal funding and student aid for tuition payments are not adversely impacted by the warning status.
